Celebrating Queen Rocked St. George Utah

Celebrating Queen Rocked St. George Utah

Rocking the Cox in St. George Utah

On Thursday, March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day, Celebrating Queen took to the stage at the Cox Center for the Performing Arts in St. George Utah. There were just under 1,000 in attendance, an eager audience looking forward to hearing the hits of Queen.

The World’s Tallest Guitarist, David Green, took to the stage first, who entertained the crowd with a wonderful acoustic set. Some of the numbers David performed included Turn The Page by Bob Seager, Pretzel Logic by Steeley Dan, Welcome to the Machine by Pink Floyd, Get Back by the Beatles, Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi (which the audience really enjoyed), and also Avery poignant Times Like These by FooFighters.

Bill Cash, DJ from Hawk 95.6 in St. George, was MC for the evening and following David’s set, he had a few words with the audience and then introduced Celebrating Queen to the stage. The house lights went down and the pulsing of Procession rang through the auditorium. The anticipation in the audience was palpable and just as Procession ended, guitarist Chris Gordon came in with a powerful introduction before starting the Queen hit “Now I’m Here”. The night was off to a flying start.

JJ Midnight’s vocal range was sublime, bringing his amazing rendition of Freddie to the audience.  Musical director Shane McDonalds keys rang out like Freddie throughout the evening on songs like Bicycle Race, Save Me, Somebody to Love and We are the Champions. Guitarist Chris Gordon had many key sections such as One Vision, We Will Rock you and Tie Your Mother Down, prior to which he had a sublime sweeping guitar solo. Our rhythm and bass section included drummer Santiago Luna and bassist Greg Benton, both of whom kept the driving force of the evening going, and highlights included respective solos and were key in songs such as Another One Bites the Dust, Hammer to Fall, and Flash. Backing vocals for the evening were provided by the Maestro of the Voicestravarius, CJ Midnight, the Celebrating Queen secret weapon who gave each song a real Queen album feel.

During the evening Celebrating Queen performed hits such as Don’t Stop Me Now, Love of My Life, One Vision, Bohemian Rhapsody (in the full Live Aid Set), We Will Rock You, and We are the Champions. The audience had been notified prior to the performance that lyrics were available via a QR code on the big screen and they sang their hearts out. It was wonderful to hear such great singing from the audience – it really meant a lot to the band to see such a response.
